Yes, we live in a desert, but for those of us that have experienced the  sudden and heavy rainfalls here in Nevada it is a real jolt of reality to see the devastation that occurs. Floods are the most common natural disaster in the U.S.- 90% of all disasters in the U.S. are flood related.  Homeowner, Renter, Condo, and Mobile Home policies do NOT cover Flood losses. Coverage can be purchased for the dwelling & the contents, or just for the contents in the case of renters. There is a mandatory 30 day waiting period before a flood policy becomes effective, so you need to ask about applying for a policy before the rainstorm arrives.

Most Homeowner Policies completely exclude coverage for earthquake or land movement.  Since Las Vegas sits on at least 7 different earthquake faults, this is an important coverage to consider.
